Imagine flaky, fluffy, soft rolls that just beg you to spread on a thick layer of butter and enjoy. That is what you will find you make these delicious dinner roll. Also this recipe is a great for bread beginners as most of the kneading and work is done by your mixer!


Cast Iron Dinner Rolls


Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease your Cast Iron Pan with oil or lard. Place your dough hook on your mixer. Combine the following ingredients in a large mixer bowl.


2 cups flour

1/4 cup sugar

1 Tablespoon salt

2 packages active dry yeast


Heat in a saucepan over low heat until very warm (120-130 degree F)

2 1/4 cup milk

1/4 cup butter


Add 1 egg and warm liquid to the flour mixture. Beat for 1/2 minute on low speed, 3 minutes at medium speed. By hand, gradually stir in another 4 to 5 cups of flour to form a soft dough.


Remove dough from the bowl and knead on a floured surface until smooth and elastic- about 1 minute.


Place dough in a greased bowl. Turning dough to be sure all of the dough is coated in oil. Cover dough, let rise in a warm draft free place until dough doubles in size or 45 to 60 minutes.


Punch down the dough. Shape dough into rounds and place in your greased cast iron pan about an inch apart. Cover a let rise in a warm place for about 30-45 minutes.


Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes until rolls sound hollow when lightly tapped. Brush top of rolls with melted butter, if desired. Remove from pans and serve!
